KERRANG AWARDS

U.K. rock magazine "Kerrang!" is honoring the best in music with their annual Kerrang! Awards. Winners were revealed during a Thursday ceremony, and Bullet For My Valentine walked away with their hands full. The band was saluted as the Best British Band and Best Live Band. Best International Band went to 30 Seconds To Mars, while Paramore's "Brand New Eyes" and You Me At Six's "Liquid Conference" were dubbed Best Album and Best Single. Biffy Clyro received a Best Video trophy for "The Captain," and Frank Turner won the "No Half Measures" Award. The evening also had some touching moments as Slipknot's Paul Gray was saluted with the Service To Metal Award, and Ronnie James Dio received the Icon Award. Other career honors went to Motley Crue for Hall Of Fame, Rammstein for Inspiration, and Lostprophets for Classic Songwriter.
Slipknot is adding to their trophy collection with a win last week at the Kerrang! Awards. But Corey Taylor admitted that accepting the trophy was a bittersweet moment, given the recent loss of founding bassist Paul Gray. Taylor told BBC's "6Music," quote, "I miss him every day. To me, nights like this are the very spirit of what Paul was all about. He was the most genuine person I knew, and he enjoyed nothing more than making music, hanging out, having a blast and celebrating life. To me this is a celebration of what he was all about - his music and the band he started." Even though Slipknot is a large group, Taylor says Gray was integral to the band's sound and compositions.
Taylor adds, quote, "[Paul] wrote the majority of the music. He was prolific when it came to that stuff. He wrote not only some of the most heavy passages, but some of the most beautiful and melodic passages too. He just had such a crazy gift for it. His contribution didn't get out there as much as it should have."
